The Myth of the Aesthetic Writer
Let's be honest: writing is not as aesthetic as movies or Instagram reels portray. There are no quiet, sunlight-drenched Parisian cafés with soft violin music.
For me, writing happened between my elder daughter's exam prep, my younger daughter's recitation rehearsal, a 10:00 AM client strategy call, and an 11:00 AM agency team meeting.
It's messy, exhausting, and often lonely. But following a purpose requires overcoming every excuse.
4 Daily Habits That Got My Manuscript Finished
1. Non-Negotiable Daily Block: Every morning from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM was dedicated to writing. Even when my daughters had exams, they sat beside me studying while I typed.
2. Mini Milestones: I broke the manuscript into 3 chapters a week. Crossing off a chapter gave me a tangible dopamine hit and kept momentum alive.
3. Gratitude Over Guilt: Life happens—relatives visit unannounced, kids get sick, work trips pop up. When I couldn't write, I stopped beating myself up and practiced gratitude instead.
4. A Tight Circle of Support: Pursuing ambitious goals invites self-doubt. Surrounding myself with my husband, family, and supportive peers kept me going on days I wanted to quit.
The Outcome
After months of disciplined routines, I finished my book—The Book Marketing Book (working title)—packed with raw experiences and practical blueprints to guide authors through the noise.
If you are balancing a busy career, family, and a dream manuscript, remember: consistency, not perfection, gets books onto bookstore shelves.
